The room in-between': Interaction in Rhythmics and aspects of the approach in the artistic-educational work with pupils having severe intellectual disabilities.

    (2020) Falschlunger, Christoph

Interaction is an important part of life. In Rhythmics, music education and music therapy contexts, where interaction is created by music, movement and various materials, this process opens up space in-between, where nonverbal communication and creative expression can take place. This article stresses that communication is more than just interacting through voice (verbal interaction). It emphasizes its possibilities and its value for artistic-educational work and shows how interactions can be initiated and continued through music, movement and materials by creating space for expression and communication on a variety of levels, which allows each participant to give and receive and dwell in possibility.

The influence of the vocal tract on the attack transients in clarinet playing

(2020) Pamies Vila, Montserrat, Hofmann, Alex, Chatziioannou, Vasileios

When playing single-reed woodwind instruments, players can modulate the spectral content of the airflow in their vocal tract, upstream of the vibrating reed. In an empirical study with professional clarinettists (Np=11), blowing pressure and mouthpiece pressure were measured during the performance of Clarinet Concerto excerpts. By comparing mouth pressure and mouthpiece pressure signals in the time domain, a method to detect instances of vocal tract adjustments was established. Results showed that players tuned their vocal tract in both clarion and altissimo registers. Furthermore, the analysis revealed that vocal tract adjustments support shorter attack transients and help to avoid lower bore resonances.

Open-Access-Publikationsfonds an österreichischen Universitäten 2017–2020 – Eine Bilanz aus Teilprojekt 3 von “Austrian Transition to Open Access”

(2020) Andrae, Magdalena, Blechl, Guido, Bodnar, Vitali, Capellaro, Christof, Ferus, Andreas, Herrenbrück, Robert, Kaier, Christian, Kranewitter, Michael, Leitner, Edith, Liska, Martina, Mayrgündter, Eva, Ohrtmann, Linda, Pichler, Franz, Steinrisser-Allex, Gregor

Ethnomusicology Matters. Influencing Social and Political Realities

(2019) Hemetek, Ursula, Saglam, Hande, Kölbl, Marko (Ed.)

This book gathers international voices from the field of ethnomusicology discussing the socio-political relevance of the discipline. The articles draw from contemporary discourses that take into account the role of music and dance in shaping social and political realities. An important field connected to political relevance is heritage, either in connection with the UNESCO or with archives. Ontologies of indigenous groups and their relevance in knowledge production is discussed in ethnomusicology nowadays as well as the possibilities of decolonising the discipline. Two articles from ethno-choreology explore dance from the gender perspective and in the post-socialist political structures. Different approaches from applied ethnomusicology deal with social justice, participatory dialogical practice, and the socio-political relevance of performance. Forced migration is seen as comprehensive topic for future ethnomusicology. The contents of the book mirror influential discourses of ethnomusicology today that will definitely shape the future development of the discipline.

(2019) Giannini, Juri, Heimerdinger, Julia, Holzer, Andreas (Ed.)

Mit Beiträgen von José L. Besada & Belén Pérez Castillo | David Blake | Megan Burslem & Cat Hope | María Paula Cannova | Carmen Chelaru, Florinela Popa & Elena Maria Șorban | Pablo Cuevas | Anna Dalos | Hong Ding | Michael Fjeldsøe | Juri Giannini | Thomas Glaser | Þorbjörg Daphne Hall | Julia Heimerdinger | Frank Hentschel | Andreas Holzer | Priscille Lachat-Sarette | Heekyung Lee | Iwona Lindstedt | Wolfgang Marx | Philippe Poisson | Ingrid Pustijanac | Matej Santi | Mike Searby | Assaf Shelleg | Danae Stefanou | Mareli Stolp | Oğuz Usman & Ozan Baysal | Elizaveta E.
